How To Make Your Own Glimmer Mist

Making your own glimmer mist is really simple.  You need a small spray bottle like this:
Start by adding hairspray into the bottle.  If will be a foamy substance so be careful not to add too much at a time.  Alternate by adding hairspray and then water until the bottle is almost full.  Then take Pearlex pigment, preferably a color that has shimmer.  I like to add anywhere from 1/4 of a teaspoon to about 1/2 of a teaspoon.  The hairspray is the agent that acts as a fixative.  I use the cheapest brand that I can find, but I look for extra hold.
After a while of not using it, the pigment settles down on the bottom of your bottle.  Just shake the bottle gently before you use it again.
Its hard to get glimmer mist to show up in photos, but here’s an example of a card that I made.  I sprayed it with one of my homemade glimmer mists.  I used a copper pigment for this one.

It really shimmers a lot more than that in person.  You can buy a set of 12 colors of Pearlex for about $20.00.  You get 12 container in 12 different colors.
If you use a 2 oz. travel size plastic bottle to make your glimmer mist, you can make more than 5 bottles of glimmer mist with each container of Pearlex pigment.  If you take into account the cost of the Pearlex set of 12 colors and the cost of a cheap can of hairspray you will be paying more of less 0.50 (US) per bottle, as opposed to $8.00 or $9.00 for the other stuff.  I think that’s a great deal.
